Salou is committed to offering year-round, higher-quality work
Salou. Costa Dorada. 18 February 2025. Salou City Council has been working for some time to ensure that tourism can offer more and higher-quality work in the municipality. The strategy to achieve this ambitious goal involves above all diversification and innovation. It is precisely in this field that Salou has taken a further step, joining a pilot project of the State Secretariat for Tourism, through Segitur.
This project will allow the evaluation of how tourist municipalities can guarantee a balanced economic activity and generate stable employment opportunities. In this way, Salou becomes a laboratory for tourism innovation, where tools can be implemented that help create and consolidate a more balanced tourism that is less dependent on seasonality.
With this initiative, Salou will become the benchmark in the fight against the temporary nature of the tourism sector, offering an innovative model that guarantees employment 365 days a year. According to the Mayor of Salou and President of the Municipal Tourism Board, Pere Granados, “this initiative represents a unique opportunity to consolidate a new economic model that overcomes seasonality and generates stable employment.” Granados made this announcement during the 5th FSC Congress of Workers' Commissions (CCOO) of the Tarragona Regions.
In fact, Salou has been working for some time on the diversification of the tourist product, with the creation of new products that can attract more visitors, not counting the summer months. In this sense, Salou's commitment to certifications as a specialized and quality tourist destination is clear, since in addition to the Family Tourism certification, Salou also has seals for sports tourism, cycle tourism, golf and family beach tourism, and aspires to consolidate itself as a gastronomic, cultural and natural and historical heritage destination.
Thus, Salou City Council is working to attract new tourist segments and new emerging markets that will allow these objectives to be achieved. For this reason, the council is also maintaining its commitment to the Hard Rock project, which plans to build casinos and hotels, and which is considered to have a high impact on the generation of economic activity all year round.
