Around 700 children and young people participate between June 26 and 30 in the Salou Youth Cup, an international football tournament organized by EFB UD Salou. The tournament is aimed at different categories from 8 to 18 years. The system is league and the groups will normally be 4 teams.
The planned program is as follows: on June 26, the teams will be welcomed and at 6:00 pm there will be a meeting with the delegates and a press conference; and on the 27th the opening ceremony will take place at 11:30 am and at 3:00 pm the tournament will begin in the league phase. On the 28th and 29th there will be a tournament all day long, and on June 30th at 9am the finals will be played and at 12:30 a.m. the prize giving and the closing of the event will take place.
The Salou Youth Cup aims to promote values and cultural exchange through sports practice. It has the collaboration of ISA Representaciones SL, sports tourism company for more than a decade that moves teams across Europe and organizes their own tournaments, in accordance with the provisions of the Spanish Football Federation and the UEFA / FIFA regulations.
Salou, capital of sports tourism on the Costa Daurada
The Salou Youth Cup also consolidates the municipality of Salou as a sporting reference on the Costa Daurada, as the mayor, Pere Granados, has pointed out. The maximum municipal representative recalled that Salou hosts more than 30 sporting events each year such as the RallyRacc, the Challenge Salou, the Mundialito, the Mare Nostrum Cup, the Half Marathon, the Mundiavocat and now the Youth Cup, among others. Granados has also reviewed the various certifications that have made Salou the reference in Sports Tourism in the Costa Daurada.
So in 2013, the municipality, thanks to the public-private partnership with the facilities of the Salou Soccer Sports Complex, received the certification in Sports Tourism by the Catalan Tourism Agency in the soccer modality. In 2016, it received the certification in the modality of Light Sailing through public-private collaboration with the Salou Yacht Club facilities, and in 2018 Salou received the certification in the modality of Cycling. Salou also has 13 certified establishments specialized in accommodating athletes.
According to the mayor "the commitment to sports tourism generates a set of benefits for the municipality, as is the positioning of Salou's destination within the sports field and the European and world sports map, the diversification of the season's offer and seasonality tour".
For its part, the Councilor for Sports, Hector Maiquez, added that the commitment to sports tourism "also generates the revitalization of activities with greater potential such as cycling, football, or sailing, taking advantage of sports facilities and resources natural conditions that Salou has, as a favorable climatology throughout the year ".
