Salou has a long history, not only because of the Iberian remains (town of La Cella) or Romans (villa de Barenys) that can be visited but also because it has had the title of town since 1194. No less than 830 years since King Alfonso II of Aragon granted this founding document and that is why Salou remembers this anniversary with various acts of historical recreation until July 7.
The first of them will be on Wednesday, July 3, 2014, at 6:00 p.m., with the official presentation of the Population Charter in the lobby of the Salou City Council. The event will be chaired by Mayor Pere Granados, and will feature the participation of the author of the book “Charter of Population of Salou, Maite Cirera, and the local historian Pedro Otiña, and will include the exhibition of a replica of the original document.
The celebration will continue on July 5, 6 and 7 in Plaza Francesc Germà (right next to the Luminous Fountain) where every day you can enjoy a medieval market from 11 in the morning to 12 at night. In addition to parades and other entertainment activities such as children's workshops or musical performances and workshops, the commemoration of the Salou Population Charter will feature a theatrical performance that will recreate the delivery of the document to the municipality, by the Ahura Theater School. The inauguration of the market and the premiere of this theatrical performance will be led by the mayor, Pere Granados.
