Overnight stays on the Costa Dorada fall by 3% and return to the statistics of two years ago

Nearly five million tourists visited the Costa Dorada in 2018

Salou. Costa Dorada. 10 November 2018.
The Tourism Business Federation of Tarragona (FEHT) and the Provincial Council of Tarragona have published the figures for the 2018 season, which highlights a 3% decrease in the number of overnight stays compared to 2017. The data for this season is now closed they have more similarity with 2016 than with last season, where a record rise was experienced. The statistics have been prepared by the Tourism Observatory and the Science and Technology Park of Catalonia (PCT), and reveal that close to 5 million (4.9) of tourists have made 19.1 million overnight stays on the Costa Dorada, which has had an average occupation of 56.8%.

The hoteliers of Tarragona ask, both the private sector and the administrations that invest to improve the tourist destination as they do and attract quality tourism. The establishments that show a greater decrease are the campsites (-3.8%) and the hotels (-2.9), but the apartments have remained at the same figures as last season.
By origin, national tourists continue to occupy the podium, with 9 million overnight stays (-5.3% in 2017), followed by tourists from France, with almost 2.3 million overnight stays (1.1% less). In third place are British visitors, who have increased 3.3% and generated 2.2 million overnight stays. These figures are directly related to the good management of Reus Airport. The Russian market also occupies an important place in statistics, with 1.2 million overnight stays (5.3% less than in 2017); the Irish, with 796,000 overnight stays and an increase of 8.9%; German, with 779,000 overnight stays and an increase of 2.7%; the Belgian, with 373,000 overnight stays, 5.7% less; and Italian, with 95,000 overnight stays, 2.5% less than in the previous season. "We are as we had expected, with figures similar to 2016, and we must try not to beat the historical numbers with figures but with the quality of the client."
