Salou, Capital of Catalan Culture 2025

Salou. Costa Dorada. 26 September 2024. The year 2025 will be an important year for Salou, full of cultural activities of all kinds, after having been designated as Capital of Catalan Culture 2025 for being "an innovative and modern municipality with a thousand-year history and a vibrant culture, closely linked to Catalonia and its historical development", according to the president of the Capital of Catalan Culture organisation, Xavier Tudela.

Upon hearing the news, Salou's Councillor for Culture, Júlia Gómez, expressed her "enthusiasm and satisfaction" for this recognition, and stressed that "this distinction will allow us to disseminate and project our culture and heritage throughout Catalonia, and it is a great source of pride for Salou and for all the people of Salou to be able to exhibit our history and traditions". In addition, it is hoped that this title will contribute to strengthening the spirit of belonging of the inhabitants of Salou towards their municipality.

For his part, the Mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, has expressed his gratitude for the recognition, stating that "Salou becomes the cultural reference point of Catalonia throughout 2025, and that fills us with responsibility and enthusiasm. We will take advantage of this opportunity to show the world our valuable cultural and historical heritage, which we want to be recognised and appreciated internationally."

The Catalan Capital of Culture initiative has 20 years of history and encompasses the entire Catalan linguistic and cultural domain. Its main objective is to expand the dissemination, use and social prestige of the Catalan language and culture, while increasing cultural cohesion between Catalan-speaking territories. In addition, this initiative seeks to promote and project the chosen municipality, both nationally and internationally.

With the designation of Salou as the Capital of Catalan Culture 2025, the capital of the Costa Daurada is preparing for a year full of cultural activities, events and initiatives that will highlight its heritage and cultural wealth, to project it both nationally and internationally, and strengthen its role as a cultural driving force within Catalonia.
