Catalan Capital of Culture 2025: pride and opportunity for Salou
Salou. Costa Dorada. 28 February 2025. Culture, pride and opportunity. These are the key concepts expressed by the mayor, Pere Granados, during the presentation of the programme of events for Salou, Catalan Capital of Culture 2025, and it is the hope with which Salou will face these twelve months of frenetic cultural activity.
It is "a source of pride for our city" because it strengthens the feeling of belonging to the municipality and, in addition, consolidates Culture as a key element in the strategy of de-seasonalisation of the local economy and of projection of Salou beyond the label of sun and beach. In short, this is how the mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, explained the importance of the appointment of Salou as Catalan Capital of Culture 2025 at the presentation of the extensive programme of activities drawn up.
There are more than 100 cultural proposals of all kinds (concerts, exhibitions, theatre, plastic arts, traditional culture, sports activities, gastronomy, etc.), which also includes the reopening and modernisation of cultural spaces (such as the Torre Vella and the Museu del Esmalte), the promotion of local heritage (Modernism route, guided tours of the archaeological sites of Kal·lípolis and Barenys), the recovery of historical memory (visits to machine gun nests), and gastronomy and sports activities, among others.
However, it has also been explained that the programme of events for Salou Capital of Catalan Culture 2025 is a lively and dynamic programme, with the possibility of further increasing the range of activities planned.
The Mayor and the Councillor for Culture, Júlia Gómez, have also stressed that the programme of events is for all audiences and ages, with special attention to children, young people and the elderly, with the aim of making culture accessible to everyone. Of course, cultural associations and artists from Salou will also have a prominent role in the programme.
The budget is in line with this ambitious programme, estimated at more than 450,000 euros paid for by the Salou City Council, the Tarragona Provincial Council, the Generalitat de Catalunya, and European funds. In addition, private companies have shown interest in collaborating with the project.
In short, Salou Capital of Catalan Culture 2025 is a great opportunity and the capital of the Costa Daurada will surely know how to make the most of it, as the president of the Associació Capital de la Cultura Catalana, Xavier Tudela, was able to confirm at the presentation of the programme of events.
