The beaches of Salou, ready for the summer season
Salou. Costa Dorada. 04 June 2024. The Salou City Council already has the two main security devices ready for the summer season on the municipality's beaches: the Beach Police Station and the lifeguard service. The first will have twenty service agents, while the lifeguard service has various land and water vehicles for rescue tasks.
Since June 3, 2024, the Salou Beach Police Station has been in operation. It is located on Passeig Jaume I, and operates every day from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., although there will be police presence 24 hours a day.
The agents have electric bicycles for patrols on the beach, motorcycles to control the Jaume I promenade, a 4x4 vehicle, a Polaris to travel on the sand and an OAC van for traffic jams.
In addition to dealing with criminal issues, the mission of the Local Police officers of the Beach Police Station is to help citizens by providing information, guidance and advice. Precisely for all this, security is one of the aspects most valued by residents and visitors, according to the YouGOV survey.
In 2023, this beach police station will provide 4,000 services, from the collection of complaints to information or assistance to citizens, as explained by the Councilor for Citizen Security of Salou, Sebastià Domínguez.
In the presentation of the Police Station, the mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, explained the economic effort of 6 million euros by the municipality to guarantee security for citizens, and has once again demanded that the capital of the Costa Dorada be an area police base (ABP), which would determine the construction of a Mossos d'Esquadra police station in Salou. However, Granados has highlighted the good collaboration that exists with all the security forces (Mossos, National Police and Civil Guard).
Lifeguard service
The lifeguard service is active since Easter on the Levante beach, where it is in operation until October 15, and extends to the beaches of Ponent, Capellans and Llarga from May 15 to October 15, during business hours. 10 in the morning to 6 or 8 in the afternoon, as the summer season progresses. In Cala Crancs from July 1 to August 31 the accident prevention, surveillance and rescue and first aid service operates. The lifeguard service includes an ambulance service that operates from May 15 to October 15 until 8:30 p.m. in high season (June 15 to September 15).
In the presentation of the service, the mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, wished the rescue and lifeguard personnel and the local police a good summer and reiterated the importance of security, tranquility and good coexistence for both visitors and the residents.
