Horta de Sant Joan presents portraits of Picasso to celebrate 100 years of the painter's presence
Horta de Sant Joan. Terres de l'Ebre. Picasso lived in Catalonia between 1895 and 1904, before embarking on the conquest of Paris. During this period several established friendships - friendships in the broadest sense of the word-, which sometimes were reason enough for a portrait. The exhibition "Picasso: Youth Catalan friends" collects thirty of these portraits Picasso d'Orta Center of Horta de Sant Joan in Catalan Ebro Lands. With it, the town celebrates the centenary of the artist's second stay in the town in 1909. The exhibition of small format consists of 13 original drawings from the Picasso Museum in Barcelona, and 15 others are also original drawings from private collections, galleries and other institutions. The portraits are divided into 4 sections: the portraits of long-distance friendships, portraits of the artists of the preceding generation; portraits of the artists of his generation and portraits of friends in the press. The exhibition will remain open until November 15th of 2009 from 11 h to 13.30 h on Tuesday to Sunday and also Saturday afternoon from 17 to 20 h. Pablo Ruiz Picasso arrived in Horta de Sant Joan, at the foot of the majestic Ports de Tortosa-Besseit in June 1898. He was until February 1899 at his first friend in Catalonia, Manuel Pallarès i Grau, who maintained a close friendship for 78 years. Your stay in Horta was critical to its evolution as a painter and also vital, as evidenced by his famous phrase: "all I know, I learned in Horta”.
